Daoyin has been connected with the healing arts from very early on. A manuscript from approx. 168BC called the Daoyin Tu or Gymnastic Chart, depicts 44 movements as medical prescriptions.
In 610 The Treatise on Causes and Symptoms of Diseases was published and it contained 213 Daoyin exercises with specific therapeutic purposes.
The main Daoist text that includes Daoyin is the The Great Purity Classic of Gymnastics and Nourishing Life, which lists many exercises.
